Early Childhood Studies
Year 10 Childcare has an emphasis on practical activities; students will explore the roles and responsibilities of a parent or child carer to satisfy the needs of young children. Practical activities include activities in both Food and Nutrition and the Art & Physical areas.
Years 11 and 12 Early Childhood Studies (ECS) is the continuation of childcare. It develops the students' understanding of the growth and development of children from conception to five years old.
Co-Curricular
Both Childcare and ECS are taught with a link to the immediate school community and the facilities in the local area. Excursions include visits to King Edward Hospital, St John of God Hospital, Ngala Family Centre, various childcare centres, kindergartens and pre-primary schools. Students will have the opportunity to have the Real Care virtual babies for a 2 - 3 day period. These activities give the students a chance to observe babies from birth to preschool and to recognise and understand the stages of child development.
